#### Overview:

Questions and Answers Type: MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions). Main Topic: Data Interpretation. Data Interpretation Sub-topic: Tables Questions and Answers. Number of Questions: 5 Questions with Solutions.

Directions: Study the following table carefully and answer the questions given below it.

The percentage of marks obtained by six students in five different subjects in an examination.

1. How many students obtained 75% and above marks in all the subjects?

1. 1
2. 2
3. 3
4. 4

Solution: The students B, D, and F obtained 75% and above in all the subjects.

1. What are the average marks obtained by all the students in English?

1. 118.75
2. 120.25
3. 122.17
4. 125.65

Solution: The marks obtained by students in English.$$A = \frac{80}{100} \times 150$$ $$= 120$$ $$B = \frac{90}{100} \times 150$$ $$= 135$$ $$C = \frac{75}{100} \times 150$$ $$= 112.5$$ $$D = \frac{85}{100} \times 150$$ $$= 127.5$$ $$E = \frac{70}{100} \times 150$$ $$= 105$$ $$F = \frac{75}{100} \times 150$$ $$= 112.5$$ Total marks obtained by all the students together in English = 120 + 135 + 112.5 + 127.5 + 105 + 112.5 = 712.5

Required Average $$= \frac{712.5}{6}$$ $$= 118.75$$

1. What is the approximate overall percentage of student D?

1. 76 %
2. 78 %
3. 80 %
4. 82 %

Solution: Marks obtained by student D in different subjects. $$History = \frac{85}{100} \times 100$$ $$= 85$$ $$English = \frac{85}{100} \times 150$$ $$= 127.5$$ $$Hindi = \frac{80}{100} \times 150$$ $$= 120$$ $$Computer = \frac{85}{100} \times 100$$ $$= 85$$ $$Geography = \frac{75}{100} \times 100$$ $$= 75$$ Total marks obtained by D in all the subjects together = 85 + 127.5 + 120 + 85 + 75 = 492.5

Total maximum marks for all the subjects together = 100 + 150 + 150 + 100 + 100 = 600

Hence the overall percentage of student D $$= \frac{492.5}{600} \times 100$$ $$= 82.08 \ \%$$ $$\approx 82 \ \%$$

1. What were the total marks obtained by student A in all the subjects together?

1. 490
2. 470
3. 465
4. 760

Solution: Marks obtained by student A in different subjects.$$History = \frac{75}{100} \times 100$$ $$= 75$$ $$English = \frac{80}{100} \times 150$$ $$= 120$$ $$Hindi = \frac{70}{100} \times 150$$ $$= 105$$ $$Computer = \frac{80}{100} \times 100$$ $$= 80$$ $$Geography = \frac{90}{100} \times 100$$ $$= 90$$ Hence total marks obtained by student A in all the subjects together = 75 + 120 + 105 + 80 + 90 = 470 Marks.

1. What is the ratio between the marks obtained by student A in English to the marks obtained by the student E in the same subject?

1. 8 : 7
2. 7 : 8
3. 7 : 9
4. 9 : 7

Solution: Marks obtained by student A in English.$$= \frac{80}{100} \times 150$$ $$= 120$$ Marks obtained by student E in English.$$= \frac{70}{100} \times 150$$ $$= 105$$ Hence required ratio $$= \frac{120}{105}$$ $$= \frac{8}{7}$$ $$= 8 : 7$$
